Better processes.
Stronger operations.

Karatepe Consulting is a boutique Vancouver practice that designs, engineers and implements business processes. We work with businesses at any stage to address workflow problems, improve operations and build practical controls.

Process design. Operational improvement. Risk and controls.

Interwoven evergreen, sage and brass paths resolve into a clear, aligned structure — a visual metaphor for bringing order to complex business operations.

WHO WE WORK WITH

When the way work runs
gets in the way.

The work still gets done, but it takes more effort, more exceptions and more people than it should, and leadership can no longer see clearly what is happening underneath.

01Visibility is slippingReports arrive late, numbers need reconciling before anyone trusts them, and decisions wait on spreadsheets.

02Margins are under pressureCost and effort are high relative to throughput, and nobody can point to exactly where the effort goes.

03Exceptions have become the processWorkarounds, re-keying and chasing approvals are now how things get done.

04Risk has become visibleA near miss, an audit finding, a regulator’s expectation or a lender’s requirement has made the gaps concrete.

WHAT WE DO

Three disciplines.
One practice.

We design and engineer processes, we implement and improve them in the business, and we build the risk and control structure that keeps them working.

01

Process design & engineering

Processes built on purpose, not by accident.

We map how work actually flows, find where it stalls, loops or depends on one person, and redesign it end to end: steps, handoffs, decision rights, data and the documents that carry it.

  • Current-state mapping and root-cause analysis
  • Target process design and handoff definition
  • Financial, reporting and operational workflows
  • Roles, decision rights and control points
02

Implementation & operational improvement

Changes that survive contact with Monday morning.

Design is only half the job. We stay to implement: sequencing the change, writing the procedures, training the people who run the process, and measuring whether the improvement held.

  • Implementation planning and rollout
  • Procedures, roles and training
  • Performance measures and management reporting
  • Technology that supports the process
03

Risk, controls & governance

Reliability you can show, not just hope for.

We identify what can go wrong, decide what is worth controlling, and build proportionate controls into the process itself, using recognized frameworks such as COSO where they add structure.

Where applicable, we support financial reporting control requirements under Sarbanes–Oxley (SOX) and NI 52-109 (Canadian SOX).

Supporting work includes regulatory programs, policies, training and mandated periodic independent reviews. Internal audit support forms part of this discipline.

  • Risk identification, assessment and mitigation
  • Enterprise risk management frameworks
  • Internal controls and segregation of duties
  • Financial reporting controls and policy frameworks
  • Regulatory programs, training and independent reviews
  • Internal audit planning and targeted reviews

HOW AN ENGAGEMENT RUNS

Diagnose. Design.
Implement. Sustain.

Every engagement starts with a short diagnostic so that we are solving the right problem before we solve it well.

01

Diagnose

Walk the process with the people who run it. Quantify where time, cost and errors concentrate.

OUTPUT / DIAGNOSTIC MEMO WITH PRIORITIZED FINDINGS
02

Design

Agree the target process, the controls it needs and the measures that will show it is working.

OUTPUT / PROCESS MAP, CONTROL MATRIX, IMPLEMENTATION PLAN
03

Implement

Put the change in place with your team: procedures, roles, tooling adjustments and training.

OUTPUT / PROCEDURES, TRAINING, GO-LIVE CHECKLIST
04

Sustain

Confirm the improvement held, hand over ownership and set a light review cadence.

OUTPUT / POST-IMPLEMENTATION REVIEW AND HANDOVER

A BOUTIQUE CONSULTING PRACTICE

Senior attention.
Proportionate scope.

Recommendations are sized to your business's priorities and capacity to implement change. Process design and operational improvement are the centre of the practice; risk and controls make a good process reliable.

Our experience covers process design, operations, internal controls, financial reporting and regulatory advisory. Our experience includes work with Fortune 500 and multinational organizations across the globe. That background shapes how we work: we look at the process as it actually runs, decide what is worth controlling, and build the control into the flow rather than adding it afterwards.

We use technology as a support for well-designed processes. Where a tool helps a process run more reliably, we will say so, specify what it needs to do, and help you put it to work.
